The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery

by Fr. Francis Martin

“The world must know
that I love the Father
and that I willingly do
what he has commanded me to do.”

Jesus we see your heart,
the human place
where the divine love
between your Father and yourself
finds a fiery dwelling.

We worship you,
we see you,
in the strength of that heart
take all the world’s sin and suffering
into your own frame,
your own heart,
and in an act of love
die and pass to the Father.

Silence...

Silence...

Fire of love...

He humbled himself,
becoming obedient,
obedient to death,
death on a cross.

“In this we know the love –
he laid down his life for us.

Jesus,
let us gaze
into that place in your heart,
pierced by love
long before the soldier’s lance.
What love,
what utter pouring out of yourself.

We see the mystery
of your infinite Triune Life
concentrated in the space of a human heart.

We adore you O Christ
and we bless you
because by your holy cross
you have redeemed the world.
