Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
ThursdayNovember 17, 2016
"Let us give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in light" (Col 1:12)! What joy, what relief, what gratitude we should feel when we read these lines, when we realize that we are so fortunate to have been baptized into that death of Jesus and his resurrection which resulted in his victory over all sin! Jesus, beloved Son of God, deigned to become incarnate, to be born of the line of King David, to join together divinity and humanity, so that He could reconcile everything to himself and bring us back to the Father (Col 1:20)!
To understand the profundity of that act of love in which Jesus secured for us our redemption, we must strive to live as Jesus did, to pour out our lives for his sake day after day. We may have some success, but often we might find ourselves driven by our disordered passions. Let us run to Jesus when we falter so that He can heal our wounded hearts, forgive our sins, and set us back on the path to the eternal city with joy and thanksgiving in our hearts (Ps 122:1,4)!
Hail, Jesus Christ, our King! You, who hung upon the cross and by your kingship admitted the sinner into paradise with you, remember us when you come into your kingdom (Lk 23:42-43)! – Bernadette Harmon for Fr. Francis Martin
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is to come!" (Mark 11:9-10)
