2nd Annual Conference

“Preaching the Mystery: Homiletics in the Year of Faith”

August 5-8, 2013
St. Charles Borromeo Seminary
100 East Wynnewood Road, Wynnewood, PA 19096

For Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians

Conference Schedule

As the title indicates, this conference is designed to help priests, deacons, and seminarians enter more deeply into the mysteries of the faith and their transmission. St. Gregory the Great once said: “Sacred Scripture, in its very manner of speaking, is above all other sciences because in one and the same word, while it narrates an event, it sets forth a mystery.” (Moralia 20,1) Every act of God in history has a divine depth, that is its mystery. Sacred Scripture both contains and mediates that mystery. The task of preachers is to come into experiential contact with that act as Scripture mediates it and communicate that to others. Every evening there will be a small-group practical exercise with discussion in preparing a Sunday sermon. There will be plenty of opportunities for spiritual reflection, prayer, confession, rest, and informal social time.
